Knole Park Golf Shop March Newsletter

ei

Welcome to the March Newsletter

The new season is within touching distance and if you aren't already looking forward to it, just take a look at The Players Championship this week for some inspiration. It's definitely time to take the clubs out of the garage/shed/car boot or wherever they've been hiding over the winter and start getting ready to hit the fairways.

Before you do though, it's worth giving the clubs a good MOT to make sure they're going to help and not hinder once you're back out there. We have a great article in this newsletter outlining the issues that can creep in if you don't give your clubs a little TLC.

This month we've teamed up with COBRA to give you the chance to win a brand new driver and stand bag.

We also take a look at the latest clothing lines available now that the Spring/Summer 19 collections have arrived in store.

As always if there is anything we can do to assist you and your game please do not hesitate to call in the Pro Shop at any time.

Pre-Season Club MOT

Over time your golf equipment will degenerate, unfortunately this is a fact of life and, much like your car, there is no way of avoiding that.

Grips will lose their tackiness, shafts will wear, clubfaces will get scratched and dented and the loft and lies of your irons will change through the consistent hits (and mis-hits)!

It is therefore vital, much like your aforementioned car, that you have your clubs regularly serviced.

We can take a look at the following areas and make any necessary adjustments for you. Just pop in and ask.

Grips: The modern synthetic grips are great, but will wear over time losing their tackiness which will result in you gripping the club tighter. This leads to tension in your body and that smooth swing you’ve been enjoying will rapidly disappear.

Shafts: While your shafts should last quite easily, there is a good chance that you could have damaged them, especially if you’ve been in the trees or find yourself taking your anger out on your clubs!!

Loft and Lie: Regular use will cause these to alter, especially if you’re practicing hard on mats in the range. This could alter your yardages and accuracy, meaning more missed fairways and greens.

Grooves: Over time the grooves in our irons will wear, more likely in our wedges where there’s more chance of A: hitting the middle and B: sand, stones and other debris getting between the clubface and the ball.

Finally, at this time of year we see a lot of club heads flying loose from the shaft. Reason being that clubs have been left in a garage or car boot where the temperature can get very low over the winter months. This can weaken the glue and lead to it breaking down. Just something to be aware of and check before you play that all the heads are firmly attached...be kind to your clubs, they like room temperature!
